"Metro Detroit: Re-Discovering Community By Re-Defining Resources"
The "Metro Detroit: Re-Discovering Community By Re-Defining Resources" Conference is designed to
be proactive in stabilizing the various communities within Metropolitan Detroit. Few will disagree that one of the
most stabilizing elements to any neighborhood is community cohesion through relationship building. This is
usually created through human interaction over time. The Conference focuses on the ideas and principles
most suited for creating the climate and environment for relationships to grow. The relationship between
resident to resident, community to business, business to business and business to government all factor into
strengthening neighborhoods and communities. The Conference will give the participants an opportunity to
create comprehensive plans stabilizing the various communities within Metro Detroit. In essence, the
Conference empowers the participants to take control of the communities in which they exist.
The Benefits of the Conference
There are many benefits to participating in a project of this magnitude, but the following are the most prevalent.
1) Improved Neighborhoods Reflective of the Community’s Ideas: The Conference allows and
offers each participating entity an opportunity to influence and create the communities in which they desire to
live. The ideas often ignored in the past can now come to fruition by creating comprehensive collaborative
plans reflective of the ideas and needs of those most impacted by the decisions; residents and entities within
the area.
2) Pooling and Sharing of Resources: Oftentimes, community development efforts have been the sole
responsibility of the originator of the idea. The Conference offers participants an opportunity to build
relationships that will begin to share financial, human and intellectual resources to create viable solutions for
issues within the various areas throughout the city.
3) Community Confidence Building: The Conference builds hope. It builds hope by providing the
necessary organizational outlet to address the issues impacting residents throughout the city. Conference
participants will effectively create plans for improving the neighborhoods, based on the input of neighborhood
residents.
4) Improved Working Relationships: By participating in the Conference, participants will develop
working relationships that are easily transferable into other areas requiring group efforts.
